Job Summary

Assistant/Associate/Full Professor on the Tenure Track

a Joint Position between the Institute of Applied Life Sciences and the College of Nursing

The College of Nursing and Institute of Applied Life Sciences seek to appoint an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor to a diverse and growing team of innovators and inventors, clinical researchers, engineers, and basic scientists working together within a state-of-the-art interdisciplinary research institute. Applicants must demonstrate working knowledge of team science, nursing ethics, nursing theory, and the state of the discipline. 

Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to the creation of a university culture that promotes and values diversity and a spirit of inclusion. 

Reporting jointly to the Dean of the College and the Director of the Institute, the Assistant Professor will engage in the scholarship of discovery, have the opportunity to teach the nurses of the future and participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programming in the College of Nursing.  They will work with the College of Nursing faculty and other departments on campus to promote opportunities for inter-professional research and education.

The successful candidate may be expected to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses, supervise graduate students, contribute significantly to the advancement of nursing discovery, establish a vibrant, independent research program, and play an active role in community and academic service activities in the Colleges of Nursing as well as in the wider University.

Essential Functions

Scholarship

  • Engage in an active program of the Scholarship of Discovery as defined by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing;
  • Provide opportunities for regular engagement with students and faculty on campus as a resource and mentor in your research area;

Teach graduate and undergraduate courses for the College of Nursing (TEACHING)

  • Teaching the courses necessary each semester during the academic year for both undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Developing and preparation of course syllabi, learning objectives, assignments, correcting student assignments and providing student feedback for each course that is taught;
  • Select learning experiences and guide students in achieving desired outcomes
  • Participate in the evaluation process of students;
  • Creating teaching materials to be used;
  • Teaching courses within the baccalaureate and graduate programs as needed;
  • Collaborating with other faculty in planning, developing, and implementing teaching/learning strategies and curricula;
  • Recommend new instructional and education research techniques obtained at professional conferences, user groups, and self-development;
  • Faculty guidance and advisement of students;
  • Available to students for advising during 3 posted office hours per week (5 hours during registration periods) and additional hours by appointment;
  • Contribute to the implementation and success of educational technology, e.g. Exam Soft, Typhon, etc.;

Provide service for the Achievement of College Goals

  • Participation as an active member of various committees, assemblies, and annual retreats;
  • Assisting with and representing the College and IALS at orientation, registration and graduation activities for incoming and graduating students
  • Initiating recommendations for additional resources and changes according to College needs;
  • Participation in the hiring and selection of faculty of the college through attendance at candidate presentations;
  • Participating in prospective student recruitment activities;
  • Participating in the development, recommendation, implementation of academic baccalaureate curriculum policies/procedures and issue resolution
  • Engage in activities that advance the mission and goals of the Institute, the College, and the University

Performs other related duties as assigned;

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • An earned PhD degree in nursing completed prior to the start of an appointment
  • Post-doc is preferred
  • Eligibility for Massachusetts RN license.  RN license in MA is required by time of appointment;
  • Possess a minimum of two years full-time experience in nursing or nursing education, or its equivalent, within the
    last five years and evidence of competence in nursing instruction;
  • Evidence of professional development to maintain expertise appropriate to teaching.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have a track record of involvement in nurse-led innovation, and who can articulate plans for an externally-fundable program of research compatible with the unique intellectual and physical resources of the Institute of Applied Life Sciences, such as the use of core facilities and collaboratory spaces.
