General Summary of Position:

The Legal Studies Program in the College of Fine Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Lowell is searching for part-time Adjunct Faculty to teach the following courses: 

LGST 2620 – Introduction to Business Law

LGST 2870 – Legal Writing

LGST 3630 – Corporate and Property Law

LGST 3660 – International Law

LGST 3850 – Immigration Law

LGST 3700 – Real Estate Law

LGST 3730 – Consumer Law

LGST 3760 – Family Law

LGST 3770 – Elder Law

LGST 3810 – Women and the Law

LGST 3830 – Alternative Dispute Resolution

LGST 3870 – Legal Research Methods

LGST 3900 - Litigation

LGST 3920 – Wills, Trusts and Estates

This posting is to develop a pool of online and classroom adjunct faculty to teach various Legal Studies courses at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. These positions will be filled on an as needed basis.

Legal Studies is a dynamic, growing interdisciplinary program located within the College of Fine Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. The program is designed for students across the University who are seeking to gain a greater understanding of the role of law in our society. In addition, the program prepares students who are interested in pursuing graduate studies in law or a law-related career.  UMass Lowell is committed to increasing diversity in its faculty, staff, and student populations, as well as curriculum and support programs, while promoting an inclusive environment. Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Reports and maintain communication at all times with Program Directors regarding all academic & teaching related matters.
  • Teaches applicable courses, as assigned.
  • Stays current with industry practices and techniques.
  • Designs and delivers class instruction through the development of instructional plans to meet course competencies, the development of activities which support the program’s objectives.
  • Delivers learning-centered instruction by establishing a classroom environment conducive to learning and student involvement as well as effectively planning and preparing for classes and student success.
  • Promotes student success by showing flexibility in style as well as exhibiting a passion for teaching and engaging students in the learning process.
  • Manages the learning environment through keeping accurate records, submitting grades and other reports on time, and enforcing UMass Lowell’s academic and attendance policies.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • J.D. degree (Must have degree at the time of application)
  • Admission to the practice of law in a U.S. state
  • Three years of practicing law
  • Prior teaching experience at the college level
  • The ability to work effectively with diverse groups
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Acknowledgment within the field with awards or other recognition
  • Prior experience developing course materials
