General Summary of Position:

The Computer Science Department at the University of Massachusetts Lowell invites applications for a full-time Project Manager to start in January 2019.  The Project Manager will be responsible for performing delegated tasks and procedures for managing the personnel, budget, and projects in a research Lab which comprises members from UMass Amherst, Worcester, Lowell, and Bedford VA, and collaborators from other Universities.   In addition, will also be responsible for managing human subjects, including IRB, and recruiting human subjects.

Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree in a scientific and health care field with 5 years related experience.  Experience in using computer-based tools (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc). SAS Programming preferred.  Occasional travel between campuses and attendance at off-site meetings will be required.

Primary responsibilities will consist of assisting the PI in Management for grants, budget, including personnel efforts, employment and tracking milestones.   Assist other administrators with research related activities.

The successful candidate would also be responsible  for assisting the PI in managing professional activities, including travel, meetings, conferences.  Managing human subjects, including IRB, and recruiting human subjects in support of clinical research protocols and other related clinical research activities.

The Department of Computer Science currently has 20 tenured and tenure-track faculty members, five full-time Assistant Teaching Professors, and a few adjunct instructors serving around 800 BS students, 100 MS students, and 75 PhD students. It also offers an MS and a BS in Information Technology online with over 150 students and over 1,200 students, respectively (BS-IT and MS-IT courses are taught by a separate faculty body). It offers bioinformatics options at all levels, a robotics minor, a data science option, and a PhD in computational mathematics.

The Computer Science faculty have received approximately $10M in the last two years in external research funding from the NSF, DARPA, DOD, DHE, NIH, and corporations. The Department has six NSF CAREER Award recipients. More information about the Department can be found at www.cs.uml.edu.

This position is contingent upon funding. The position is initially for one year contingent upon funding and successful performance. 

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree in a scientific or health care field with 5 years related experience
  • Experience in using computer-based tools (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters or Ph.D. preferred
  • SAS Programming skills preferred
