The University of Massachusetts Boston seeks a dynamic individual with relevant K-12 STEM teaching experience to join our team supporting K-6 teachers in teaching STEM, specifically science.
UMass Boston has recently started a partnership with the Dever School to support their teachers and students in increasing academic rigor and supporting better outcomes for students, teachers, and families. This position is a “Master Teacher” position would work with our Center of Science and Math in Context (COSMIC) team to support teachers at the Dever School. This role would specifically work with teachers in grades 4-5 in the first year and other grades in future years. This position will work closely with faculty in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and specifically in COSMIC.
Examples of Duties:
The responsibilities of this position include:
- co-planning lessons with teachers,
- modeling lessons for teachers,
- co-teaching with teachers in their elementary classrooms,
- leading professional development for teachers,
- working with faculty colleagues in CEHD to design and assess innovative approaches to developing and delivering elementary school science curriculum,
- coordinating with the UTeach program in COSMIC, and
- supporting the diverse students and teachers at the Dever School.
Qualifications include, at minimum, a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusivity; Master’s degree in mathematics, science, science or mathematics education, or related field; at least three years’ experience in the last ten years teaching mathematics in grades PreK-8; demonstrated ability to coach teachers on STEM instruction; demonstrated ability to apply STEM education research supported best-practices in the classroom. A doctoral degree is preferred.
