Job Description
The Nursing Lab and Simulation Tutor will work with nursing faculty and students on our Amherst campus and online to promote opportunities for educational development and growth. This position reports directly to the Simulation Lab Director when performing duties related to the teaching, tutoring, training, or lab prep. Primary teaching responsibilities will be teaching in the Simulation Lab. The Nursing Lab and Simulation Tutor will collaborate with faculty in conducting simulation scenarios and debriefing sessions. The Nursing Lab and Simulation Tutor will be working with academic leadership in the College of Nursing to provide short-term and long-range comprehensive strategic and operational planning in support of the simulation laboratories. The Nursing Lab and Simulation Tutor will be actively involved in the academic program and curriculum committee meetings for the integration of simulation experiences in meeting course and program objectives. Initial appointment of one year. Potential for reappointments and continuing appointment dependent on funding.
Essential Functions
- Provide and facilitate simulation education experiences to students.
- Teach faculty how to use simulation technologies and how to conduct and debrief effectively
- Possess technological competence in health care equipment, electronic documentation, computer skills, Microsoft Office, and presentation technology
- Demonstrate expertise in the provision of skills training, remediation, or tutoring one-on-one or in small groups
- Collaborate with faculty to identify needs and in developing and implementing creative laboratory learning environments Hold open labs during unscheduled student class/lab hours
- Perform other job-related duties, including assisting with set-up and break-down of lab activities, as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, preferred BS in Nursing and enrolled in a Master’s program or holds a Master’s degree
- Massachusetts RN license is required by time of appointment and must be maintained in good standing
- Possess a minimum of five (5) years of full-time experience within the last eight (8) years and evidence of clinical competence in the area of clinical instruction (A Master's degree may be substituted for two (2) years of full-time experience).
- Ability to maintain nursing practice and academic expertise appropriate to teaching responsibilities [244 CMR 6.04(2)(b)(5)]
- Ability to communicate effectively with undergraduate/graduate students, faculty, and staff both orally and in writing Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to use an online teaching platform and basic IT applications Good organizational skills
- Ability to meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
- National certification in the clinical area.
- National certification as Nurse Educator (CNE) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE)
- Experience as a nursing faculty within the past 2-3 years.
Additional Information
- Must maintain professional development in specialty area and pedagogy annually.
- Participation in the Annual Faculty Reporting process is required.
Work Schedule
- Faculty will work a 9-month contract (Fall and Spring semesters)
- This appointment may include a teaching assignment, credits commensurate with rank. Full-time 9-month position requiring flexible hours May include some evenings and weekends
