General Summary of Position:

The Senior AV Engineer is a technical staff lead responsible for ensuring the reliability and ongoing modernization of presentation technology in all instructional, administrative, and event spaces on campus. This role works on the Instructional Technology Support team to design, install, and maintain technical classrooms and conference rooms throughout the large, distributed, and urban UMass Lowell campus.

The Senior AV Engineer has project management responsibilities for all new and refurbished spaces on campus requiring presentation and audio/video technology. Serving as a trusted advisor on classroom and conference room design and installation for all departments and disciplines, this role works closely with clients to understand use cases, present project budgets, and coordinate purchases for required equipment. The Senior AV Engineer is responsible for the setup and coordination of Technology Enhanced Classrooms, including ongoing maintenance and updates.

This position reports to the Director of Instructional & Classroom Technology Services on new and refurbished classroom construction projects across all campuses and provides technical support and advice for high-profile special events across campus.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • 5+ years of progressive Enterprise-level AV experience
  • Active Extron and Dante certification
  • CTS certification required
  • Experience leading AV implementations in complex environments
  • Experience supporting high-impact live events
  • Advanced Extron system configuration and programming (GCP, GVE, GUI Designer, Toolbelt, DSP Configurator)
  • Experience with Dante audio networking (Dante Controller, Dante Domain Manager)
  • Strong knowledge of AV-over-IP architecture and networking fundamentals (VLANs, subnetting, DNS, DHCP, POE)
  • Expertise in projection systems, audio reinforcement, lecture capture technologies, and control integration
  • Ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex AV issues
  • Ability to work in instructional and live-event environments
  • Project management experience

Additional Considerations:

  • Experience in higher-education instructional technology environments
  • Low-voltage certification or equivalent experience
  • Experience developing technical documentation and training materials
  • Experience with the pilot/evaluation of emerging instructional technologies

This position is full-time, benefited and in the SEIU professional union, grade P19. Anticipated salary based on qualifications/experience within P19 range which has 25th quartile of $89,568, midpoint of $101,251 and 75th quartile of $112,934. For this position, anticipate hire up to $120,000.
