General Summary of Position:

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for research, mentoring, and lab management that support the GW lab's mission of investigation the effects of climate change and infectious disease on marine organisms. This position is ideal for someone seeking to obtain additional research experience prior to entering graduate school. In addition to lab management duties, this position includes opportunities for independent research, travel to conferences, and authorship on scientific papers.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Education requirements: Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related field
  • Specific experience in a research lab setting
  • Experience with general molecular lab work including DNA extractions and PCR      
  • Experience with marine fieldwork
  • AAUS scientific dive certification
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills in record keeping, multitasking, prioritizing

Additional Considerations:

  • Flexible schedule that allows for fieldwork

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Research experience working with coral microbiomes
  • Experience mentoring other trainees
  • Demonstrated proficiency with one or more of the following: the command line, R, python or other relevant statistical analyses/programs is preferred

This is a Grants & Contracts (MTA/GRACE) Union position, Grade P12.
