Assistant Teaching Professor – Psychology (Social/Cognitive)

The Department of Psychology in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor in Psychology starting September 1, 2026. The successful candidate will teach courses such as Statistics, Research Methods in Psychology, Introduction to Psychology, and Social Psychology at both undergraduate and graduate levels, in addition to others based on departmental needs. The appointment level will be made commensurate with experience. This is a 9-month, non-tenure-track position with primary responsibilities for undergraduate and graduate instruction, undergraduate advising, and university service. Initial appointment is for two years, with possibility of renewal.

It is expected that the successful candidate will be an engaging and effective teacher with a strong commitment to student learning and success. Responsibilities include teaching Statistics, Research Methods in Psychology, Introduction to Psychology, Social Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, and other undergraduate or graduate courses based on departmental needs. The successful candidate will also implement inclusive and evidence-based teaching and learning approaches to ensure the academic success of a diverse population of students; collaborate with faculty to enhance curriculum; provide academic and thesis advising; and participate in department and university service.

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must have earned a doctoral degree in Social Psychology or Cognitive Psychology, or closely related field at the time of employment, have experience with teaching at the college level, and demonstrate excellent communication skills. They must also show a commitment to teaching excellence, and to working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Candidates must also be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis.


Preferred Qualifications
• The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate masters-level courses, including both introductory courses (e.g., General Psychology and Statistics) and more specific topics (e.g., Social or Cognitive Psychology), as needed by the department.
