SUPERVISES: Functional supervision of 40-50 part-time lecturers

SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Working with the Department Chairs and other staff, the Clinical Coordinator will have oversight of instructors engaged in clinical experiential education ensuring: appropriate numbers of instructors with required credentials, orientation to clinical education outcomes, support in the educational settings, ongoing mentoring, and performance assessments. Using the concept-based curriculum (CBC) best practices, the clinical coordinator will ensure that instructors are prepared to integrate CBC didactic learning into the clinical experiential learning outcomes per curriculum requirements. This position supports the department chairs in their management of the undergraduate prelicensure tracks in on-campus and field education.

EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Collaborates with chairs, clinical education coordinator, and clinical course coordinators to determine the number of needed instructors each semester.
• Collaborates with the clinical education coordinator to determine agency availability of the required number of placements.
• Recruits, interviews and recommends to the department chairs qualified instructors for experiential courses in the prelicensure tracks (in accordance with the MA Board of Registration in Nursing).
• Directs appropriate administrative assistant to prepare instructor hiring contracts.
• Collaborates with clinical educator coordinator and schedules recommended clinical groups for department chairs’ approval.
• Collaborates with clinical educator coordinator and assigns appropriate clinical site/unit placement for clinical nursing instructor.
• Collaborates with healthcare and community agencies to increase understanding and integration of Concept-Based Curriculum (CBC) into clinical experiences to meet course outcomes and improve practice readiness.
• Coordinates and implements instructors’ orientation to clinical teaching in Concept-Based Curriculum (CBC). Maintains checklist of competencies.
• Determines student placements with clinical instructor prior to the start of the semester.
• Organizes and conducts conferences with clinical instructors in order to ensure up-to-date understanding and application of CBC course learning outcomes, national accreditation standards, state regulatory expectations, and topics related to preparing the new graduate nurse for practice.
• Oversight and management of instructors’ day-to-day problem solving related to clinical instruction.
• Conducts field site visits to health care and community agencies and oversees, supports, and assesses instructors’ integration of didactic and clinical education.
• Organizes coverage for instructors as needed.
• Facilitates ongoing faculty development to ensure incorporation of CBC in clinical learning.
• Facilitates communication between didactic course faculty, course coordinators, and clinical nursing faculty.
• Conducts part-time clinical instructors’ performance assessments, in conjunction with department chair.
• Collaborates with clinical educator coordinator and instructors to maintain communication with external clinical agencies.
• Develops relationship agreements with new clinical sites for clinical learning experiences.
• Monitors clinical placement data and contributes to Systematic Program Evaluation Plan as appropriate
• Provides data related to clinical education as external regulators require.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: MS in Nursing.
EXPERIENCE: Significant (over 5 years) experience in nursing education (university or health agency based). Additionally, 2-3 years of clinical/lab instruction experience.
OTHER: MA RN license active. RI RN license or willing to obtain. Local and regional travel is required.

• Ability to understand clinical contract process and assume responsibility for contracts as required
• Ability to negotiate detailed computerized systems, including but not limited to clinical scheduling systems, third-party credential vendors,
• Ability to design and maintain databases as required
• Ability to recruit and screen potential clinical adjunct faculty and preceptors
• Ability to participate in mentoring of clinical faculty and preceptors
• Ability to sustain prolonged periods of time using a computer and keyboard

PREFERRED:

• Experience working with Concept Based Curriculum
• Experience with Competency-Based Evaluation processes

Salary: $85,000 - $94,000 (Salary commensurate with experience)
