Apprentice I/ Asbestos UMass Amherst
Asbestos Worker Apprentices (Apprentices I through III) perform project work commensurate with training and experience at the appropriate level to acquire practical experience in the skills of abatement, removal, repair and cleaning of hazardous building materials including: asbestos, lead, PCBs, heavy metals, molds and other hazardous building materials.; attend assigned classes to acquire training, instruction, information, and certification related to the appropriate level; and perform related work as required. Apprentice I is the entry-level trade job in the series. With supervisory guidance, the Asbestos Worker Apprentice (hereafter referred to as the Apprentice) provides support, abatement, removal, repair and cleaning of hazardous building materials including: asbestos, lead, PCBs, heavy metals, molds and other hazardous building materials. This includes but is not limited to: duct work, floors, ceilings, crawl spaces, excavations, demolitions, windows and other areas of interior and exterior of buildings. The Apprentice also attends classroom training during work hours to complete requirements for a series of different licensures over the course of three years.

Apprentice I is the entry-level job in the series. May assist other employees in the performance of their work.  Performs related work as required.
