Job Summary

The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for a full-time, Academic Year lecturer to start in the Fall of 2023. The successful candidate will teach two to three (2-3) on-campus undergraduate Psychology courses per semester covering one (1)  or more of the following courses: Introductory Psychology, Statistics, and/or Research Methods as well as teaching developmental and/or clinical psychology. The position is non-tenure track with potential for promotion and a continuing appointment. 

 

Essential Functions

The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences seeks to hire a lecturer to teach both large lecturer and small seminar undergraduate Psychology courses. Course load will be three (3) classes per semester as well as participating in assigned service relevant to the department’s mission of undergraduate teaching and support. The specific duties will be determined yearly and is based on department need. Examples of potential department service include advising psychology majors, sponsoring psychology clubs or serving on the undergraduate studies committee.

 

Other Functions

  • Work collaboratively and effectively to promote teamwork, diversity, equality and inclusiveness. 
  • Work in partnership with colleagues within the CNS community and across the campus to support the Dean’s strategic priorities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the College of Natural Sciences.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Psychology.
  • Expertise relevant to teaching one or more of the following courses: Introductory Psychology, Statistics, and/or Research Methods.
  • Expertise relevant to teaching undergraduate courses in developmental psychology and/or clinical psychology.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence.
  • Experience working with diverse populations/students and promoting inclusivity and equity.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Skilled in teaching large classes, as well as small seminars.
  • Candidates with expertise in diversity science or integrating diversity related content into psychology courses are especially encouraged to apply.

 

Salary Information

Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications.
