Assistant Professor (English) UMass Boston
The English Department seeks an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing-Poetry beginning September 1, 2027 at a lively, diverse, urban university with about 250 undergraduate majors and minors, over 40 MA students in literature, composition, pedagogy, and creative writing, and a fulltime MFA program enrolling 30 students in creative writing. Responsibilities include teaching poetry workshops, classes on poetry as literature, and the pedagogy of creative writing, as well as eventually participating in the regular rotation of tenured MFA faculty into the directorship of the MFA program. Secondary areas of expertise, particularly in digital storytelling and creative nonfiction, hybrid genres, and/or multicultural literatures are of interest to us and should be described.

The Research Associate will work across several grant-funded projects addressing issues of aging including elder mistreatment and dementia care, including the National Collaboratory to Address Elder Mistreatment (NCAEM), Phase IV: Integrating Elder Mistreatment Prevention and Intervention in Mainstream Health and Social Care for Older Adults, and Detection of Elder Mistreatment Through Emergency Care Technicians – Revised for Primary Care (DETECT-RPC). NCAEM is a national initiative designed to embed elder mistreatment (EM) prevention and intervention within mainstream health systems, state aging networks, and Medicare Advantage health plans. Building on prior momentum, Phase IV focuses on integrating EM into broader aging initiatives, identifying supportive policy and payment pathways, translating evidence into practice, and strengthening sustainability. DETECT-RPC is an NIA-funded research project aimed at adapting and testing an elder mistreatment screening and intervention tool for use in home-based primary care.

Responsibilities will most significantly include the identification, cultivation and solicitation of new prospects for the University. The Major Gifts Officer will serve as a fundraiser for University-wide targeted initiatives and will work closely with colleagues in University Advancement, Dean’s, faculty and senior administrators in developing and implementing key fund-raising strategies and activities.
