Summer 2025 Intern – Internal Audit

Primary Work Location:

  • Hybrid work environment.
  • Primarily located at 50 Washington Street, Westborough offices, with regular remote work.
  • Occasional travel to campuses.

Normal Work Schedule:

40 hour per week position with schedule flexibility

Job Summary:

The University of Massachusetts Office of the President seeks UMass students for an Intern for Summer 2025 in the division of University Internal Audit (IA). The internship is ideal for a current UMass undergraduate or graduate student who is eager to learn, inspired to think analytically, excited by public service, and motivated to communicate complicated ideas clearly.

The selected intern will gain valuable insights into Internal Audit’s role at the University and the operations of and systems used by various departments across the University. The internship will be project-based and require frequent collaboration with colleagues within IA, the broader President’s Office, and campuses. Under the guidance of Internal Audit Management and Senior Auditors, the Intern will support Internal Audit’s goals by taking part in evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of the University’s operations, compliance with policy and regulations, and systems of internal control.

This internship is full-time for summer 2025, with a pay rate of $17 per hour. In addition to being a paid internship, academic credit may also be available.

Essential Functions:

With oversight and direction from senior staff and management, the intern will support the IA team as follows:

  • Provide general administrative support
  • Assist in audit research and tests of internal controls and compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Interact with administrators, faculty, and staff
  • Organize workpapers
  • Follow-up on management’s action plans
  • Think critically and exercise professional skepticism, judgment, and discretion
  • Perform special assignments and other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience):

  • Current UMass student enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program of study, e.g., accounting, business administration or IT
  • GPA 3.0 or higher
  • Interest in higher education, internal audit, operations, compliance, and IT
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and comfortable with new technology
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, work both independently and as part of a team, and think critically
  • Strong communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Inquisitive and can demonstrate analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a friendly and professional demeanor
  • Ability to travel to all five UMass campuses
