The Department of Conflict Resolution, Human Security, & Global Governance in the McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies at UMass Boston invites applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor position, beginning September 1, 2023. We are seeking a scholar/practitioner who can strengthen the conflict resolution program core, and who has a primary focus on conflict at the community, organizational, or national (US domestic) level.  We are interested in candidates whose areas of focus include conflicts surrounding race, ethnicity, and justice, particularly in the US, as well as candidates with a focus on gender and conflict, or restorative justice. We are open to all research methodological strategies, but some fluency in quantitative methods is a plus.  Candidates must possess an earned doctorate in a relevant social science discipline by the date of appointment.

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Building Maintenance & Alterations, the Assistant Director of Building Maintenance is responsible for the maintenance and operations of the Academic and Research facilities located on the UMass Amherst campus and outlying stations. This position directly supervises Building Maintenance Managers and indirectly supervises Institutional Maintenance Foremen.  Reviews schematic design diagrams, construction documents, and product and/or equipment submittals.  Plans repair and preventive maintenance and assists with planning of Capital Improvement Projects needed to keep all systems operating reliably. Represents the Physical Plant in the Facilities Planning Division on all matters related to design, construction, and start-up and commissioning of new construction and renovation projects.

The incumbent will work under the general supervision of Principal Investigator, Dr. Giverson Mupambi, and will conduct research related to cranberry physiology in agrivoltaic systems. The research will look at the effect of different shading treatments as determined by inter-row spacing under an agrivoltaic system in cranberry production.
CRF Thermal Mechanical Properties (TMP) & Plastics Engineering Technologist UMass Lowell
This Position is a dual report between the Thermal Mechanical Properties Core lab overseen by the Core Research Facilities (CRF) and the Plastics Engineering Department. CRF Thermal and Mechanical Properties (TMP) Lab: Assist in the daily operation of the TMP, a Core Research Facility at UMass Lowell, offering training and services to students, faculty, and external users on a fee-for-service basis. This operation includes: Thermogravimetric Analyzer (TGA), Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC), Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer (DMA), and Instron Universal Testing Machine (UTM). The responsibilities of the TMP Lab Manager include performing thermal and mechanical analyses of routine and research samples in collaboration with faculty and commercial clients, developing TMP experiments and methodologies, training new TMP instrument users, and the assisting in and the implementing of the preventive and corrective maintenance program and supplies inventory for the TMP laboratory. This job includes equivalent responsibilities as outlined above for equipment maintenance & operation, training and advising of faculty, students, external users, service work and analysis. Plastics Engineering: Perform a wide variety of administrative, lab equipment instruction, equipment installation, equipment maintenance/modification and technical duties and other tasks related to specific and sophisticated plastics processing and testing equipment and machinery. Assist faculty and students in technical laboratory projects, troubleshooting, and diagnosing equipment problems. Supervise students in use of plastics processing, testing, and characterization equipment. Perform duties in the Department of Plastics Engineering which require a high degree of technical and/or engineering competence. Provide lab instruction, supervision, and technical support for the plastics engineering undergraduate laboratories, graduate research laboratories and the department's computer systems.

Installs, repairs, alters and maintains fluid transmission systems, sanitary fixtures, heating systems, low and high pressure steam lines, condensate lines, water lines, sprinkler lines, sewer lines; and performs other related work as required, including but not limited to, trade related asbestos abatement, repairs and/or initiates repairs on building systems such as; pneumatic control systems, heating and ventilation (HVAC) systems, cooling towers, pumps and  related  equipment. Employing the use and need of specialized testing and monitoring, diagnostic equipment; works synchronously with Control Technicians / trade personnel maintaining the building systems integrity, exercises functional supervision of other employees of lower grade performing related repair and maintenance activities. Performs related work as required. This is a maintenance function, which includes overtime and returning to work between shifts when directed or called.

The qualified candidate will be responsible for facilitating work-flow management of chemical analysis of waters, sediments, soils, and biological (chiefly invertebrate) tissues. The Senior Laboratory Scientist will establish and maintain a well-organized lab environment; will provide guidance in the use of laboratory materials and equipment; will provide safety protocols associated with experiments and equipment; and will monitor lab courses as they take place to ensure the correct execution, operation of equipment and compliance to standard operating procedures. The Senior Laboratory Scientist will also orient and assist in the training of undergraduate and graduate students as Laboratory Assistants; and will assist in the development of new analytical methods, as directed.
