Job Summary

Manage the Environmental & Soil Chemistry Lab.  Provide Lab and field support for environmental and soil chemistry research program.

 

Essential Functions

  • Manage the environmental & soil chemistry laboratory and conduct research in environmental and soil chemistry and other related areas.
  • Operate and maintain analytical instruments such as High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), Gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC_MS), Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), Liquid scintillation counter (LSC), Costech Elemental CNOS Analyzer, Particle size and zeta potential analyzer, Agilent microwave plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (MP-AES), and Shimadzu GC-2014 greenhouse gas analyzer.
  • Assist and train graduate and undergraduate students in the lab on instruments and experimental procedures.
  • Summarize and process research data, conduct statistical analyses, write reports, conduct literature searches.
  • Purchase and manage lab supplies.
  • Notify and track students for lab safety training.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Other Functions

  • Work collaboratively and effectively to promote teamwork, diversity, equality and inclusiveness. 
  • Work in partnership with colleagues within the CNS community and across the campus to support the Dean’s strategic priorities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the College of Natural Sciences.

 

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Knowledge of computer software such as word processors, graphic and statistical packages.
  • Knowledge of operating analytical instruments such as HPLC, LSC, GC-MS, ICP-MS.
  • Ability to organize laboratory experiments and develop reports in a labor efficient manner.
  • Ability to work with others.

 

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

Bachelor Degree (in Soil Chemistry or Chemistry) is strongly preferred.

 

Work Schedule

Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, 37.5 hours per week

 

Salary Information

Grade 11
