| CRF Thermal and Mechanical Properties (TMP) Lab and Nanofabrication Lab (NFL): Assist in the daily operation of the TMP and NFL, Core Research Facilities at UMass Lowell, offering training and services to students, faculty, and external users on a fee-for-service basis.
In the TMP, this operation includes: Thermogravimetric Analyzer (TGA), Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC), Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer (DMA), and Instron Universal Testing Machine (UTM). The responsibilities of the TMP Lab Technologist include performing thermal and mechanical analyses of routine and research samples in collaboration with faculty and commercial clients, developing TMP experiments and methodologies, training new TMP instrument users, and assisting in and the implementing of the preventive and corrective maintenance program and supplies inventory for the TMP laboratory.
In the NFL, this operation includes: Advanced semiconductor tool suites, including photolithography, thin-film deposition, and etching systems. The NFL Technologist works closely with the Director and Sr Technology Manager to prioritize and execute daily operations in a fast-paced busy cleanroom in which multitasking abilities, highest attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to quickly changing priorities.
This job includes equivalent responsibilities as outlined above for equipment maintenance & operation, training and advising of faculty, students, external users, service work and analysis. |

Postdoctoral Research Associate – Complex Artificial Electromagnetic Materials

| Applicants are sought for a full-time, benefitted postdoctoral researcher position in the field of complex artificial electromagnetic materials - design, modeling, fabrication and characterization - at the University of Massachusetts Lowell Submillimeter-Wave Technology Laboratory (STL). STL is interested in furthering its expertise in the modeling, fabrication, and characterization of full-scale and scale-model artificial complex electromagnetic materials within the microwave to THz regimes. Candidates will be expected to scale the electromagnetic properties of existing and novel artificial electromagnetic materials as per the rules of electrodynamic similitude. The successful applicant will also collaborate with STL senior staff, write detailed technical reports for STL’s DoD sponsor, as well as publish results in scholarly journals and/or relevant recognized conferences in the United States (US). The successful applicant may also be assigned other relevant duties in support of STL’s DoD contract regarding full-scale and scale-modeling of complex artificial electromagnetic materials by STL’s Director.
The initial appointment will be May 16, 2026 through May 15, 2027, assuming additional funding is available by November 16, 2026, with a possibility of renewal for a second year based on productivity and performance and the availability of funding. |

University Police Sergeants are appointed as sworn police officers pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws chapter 75, section 32A and chapter 90C which grants University Police Sergeants the same authority, immunities and privileges as a duly appointed and qualified sworn police officer acting elsewhere in the Commonwealth.
Under the general supervision of the University Police Lieutenant, a Sergeant patrols assigned areas of property used, owned or occupied by the University of Massachusetts and areas adjacent to the university to provide a safe and secure environment for all members of the University community by means of an alert and vigilant preventive patrol. Patrol Sergeants provide first- line supervision of the activities of sworn and/or non-sworn personnel on a shift, who are engaged in patrol duty, bike patrol, criminal investigations, community relations, crime prevention activities, and in-service training activities. An employee in this class frequently participates in the work performed by subordinate officers and is responsible for performing related duties as required.
The Patrol Sergeant’s primary responsibility is to ensure the effective performance of duty by patrol personnel. Patrol Sergeants work independently in performing regularly assigned duties and assumes complete charge in the event of the absence of a superior officer. Work is performed in accordance with federal, state, and local laws as well as university and departmental policies, procedures, and general orders. Work is reviewed by inspection, through verbal and written reports, and by results achieved. |
