General Summary:
The Coordinator of Accommodations and Services is responsible for maximizing access and promoting learning and development for students with disabilities at UMass Boston. Conduct initial registration meetings with new students and meet with continuing students to assess requests for academic accommodations. Collaborate with faculty to implement academic accommodations. Provide support and facilitation for Ross Center Academic Coaching programs. Assist students with training for assistive technology options. Make referrals to UMass Boston internal and external community resources to support student success. Assist with outreach to and collaboration with UMass Boston success programs, admissions, local community colleges and high schools.
Examples of Duties:
- Conduct intake assessments with students new to the Ross Center, including a review of disability documentation, discussion of past experience with academic accommodations and learning challenges, and review of course syllabi. Update assessments for continuing students as needed.
- Meet with new and continuing students and, as needed, faculty, to determine reasonable academic accommodations based on course requirements and design (at the beginning of the semester and as needed); communicate approved accommodations to faculty; and ensure accommodations are fully implemented. Meet with students as needed during the semester to discuss any issues with implementation of approved accommodations; work with student and faculty to resolve.
- Actively encourage and facilitate the use of assistive technology for students with disabilities.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure student accommodations maximize access and inclusion and services advance student success
- Provide information to students regarding disability services, policies, and procedures as well as campus academic and other support services.
- Provide consultation and guidance to students regarding assistive technology.
- Assist with the provision of education and information related to disability services to staff and students involved in support programs at UMass Boston, including DSP, freshman success programs, Success Boston, and Student Support services through individual meetings and group presentations.
- Complete required paperwork related to position including data entry and correspondence
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required, masters’ degree in Higher Education Administration, Social Work, Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling or related field preferred. Minimum of three years’ professional experience delivering services to individuals with disabilities in an educational or non-profit setting, preferably in higher education. Excellent student service, communication, problem-solving, and public presentation skills, and knowledge of federal and state laws regarding IDEA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, ADA, and ADAA required.
