Assistant Professor Position in Marine Biology
The Department of Biology at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning September 1, 2027.
The Department is seeking candidates with a teaching and research focus in marine organismal biology. The successful candidate’s research approach will cross boundaries of traditional life sciences disciplines and addresses questions of broad significance. The research focus is open but should include locally relevant questions involving marine organisms (fishes, invertebrates, or marine mammals). Researchers whose programs include both fundamental and applied questions are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will develop an externally funded research program and will be expected to teach specialized classes in their area of expertise as well as a foundational marine biology class focused on fishes, invertebrates, or marine mammals.
The successful candidate’s research program will complement existing research strengths in the Department and have the potential to form new cross-disciplinary research collaborations. The Biology Department is an inclusive community with research strengths in marine biology, ecology, organismal and evolutionary biology, and genomics. The department benefits from well-established connections on campus with the School for Marine Science and Technology, the College of Engineering, and the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, as well as collaborations with other universities, research institutions, and agencies in the region.
