Job Summary

Performs general construction labor, and assist others in performing carpentry, painting, repair and construction activities.

 

Essential Functions

  • Perform typical manual tasks in connection with maintenance, repair, and construction activities including demolition and installation of partitions, walls, ceilings, floors, and other building elements; cleaning and removal of trash, rubbish, debris, packing, excess stock, and other materials from work sites; moving/loading/unloading of materials, files, furnishings, and equipment at work sites, storerooms, stockrooms, warehouses, vehicles, mechanical rooms, and other campus building locations; erection and dismantling of scaffolding and rigging systems.
  • Assist others in the performance of maintenance, repair and construction of building architectural systems and elements typically involving the replacement of windows, doors, glazing, roofs, insulation, floor covering, painting, screens, partitions (portable and fixed), furniture, ceilings, gutters, walks, stairs, etc.
  • Operate automobiles, trucks, power tools, hand tools and other equipment as required in support of maintenance, repairs and construction activities.

Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Working knowledge of the fundamentals of one or more building construction trade specialties.
  • Possess a current and valid Class D Driver's License.
  • Must be able to do simple manual work.
  • Ability to use common hand tools and portable handheld power tools.
  • Ability to operate automobiles and light trucks.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time and under varying climatic conditions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
  • Ability to maintain a calm manner in emergency situations.
  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Physical stamina and endurance.
  • Manual dexterity.
  • Knowledge of types and uses of materials used in carpentry.
  • Knowledge of the safety practices and procedures followed in construction carpentry.
  • Knowledge of the types and uses of safety equipment used in construction.
  • Skill in using small hand tools such as hammers, saws, screwdrivers, chisels, drills, etc.
  • Skill in using handheld power tools such as power saws, power drills, power hammers, etc.
  • Skill in the use of painting tools such as rollers, sprayers, etc.

 

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • Performs tasks as assigned related to carpentry, painting, repair and construction activities.
  • Operate automobiles, trucks, power tools, hand tools and other equipment as required in support of maintenance, repairs and construction activities.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Physical stamina and endurance.

 

Additional Details

This is a seasonal assignment for the summer months.

 

Work Schedule

  • Monday – Friday, 6:00am – 2:00pm.
  • This is a temporary, unbenefited position.

 

Salary Information

$22.00 per hour.
