SUPERVISES: Student Orientation Coordinators and Orientation Leaders

SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Assist the Associate Dean of Students for New Student & Family Programs (NSFP) in designing, implementing, and administering First Year Experience (FYE) programs, family programs as well as orientation functions for student staff, new students, and families. Develops and supports comprehensive orientation programming which provides opportunities for individual growth and enhances the first-year transition into college life within a large and diverse community. Coordinate aspects of logistics, training, research, assessment, and programming for the paraprofessional staff, new students and families, and other areas as needed. Assist with enrollment initiatives as needed.
Follows the University’s best practices to build and/or support student academic success and retention and assist in meeting strategic objectives for persistence and timely graduation of all the student population.

EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Supervises Orientation Coordinators and Orientation Leaders
• Serves as support to professional staff and acts as an ethical role model to paraprofessional staff
• Maintains updated website and social media posts consistently throughout the year
• Coordinates office set-up and organizes NSFP materials
• Assists with the coordination of all Orientation planning, implementation, and follow-up activities by collaborating with campus partners
• Supports the transfer community through assessment, programming, community building, and advocacy by developing transfer               initiatives
• Supports Admission recruiting by attending high school fairs, open houses, and other events
• Coordinates and/or assists in the educational programming and presentation of speakers to First Year students at on-campus or virtual     events
• Supports office functions as they relate to the Associate Dean of Students and/or the NSFP Office function.
• Assists with family and commuter outreach and support
• Coordinates Orientation Coordinator and Orientation Leader selection processes including: marketing, interviews, group process,               reference checks, and notification
• Creates, supervises, and assesses Orientation Leader Training/Leadership development programs (including spring training workshops       and intensive summer training program)
• Supports and delivers FYE workshops in fall and spring on topics such as Financial Literacy, Self-Advocacy, COIN, etc.
• Serves on various Student Affairs committees to support campus activities and professional development. Supports Advancement’s           Blue & Gold Weekend activities and assists as needed.
• Develops and executes programs and initiatives to assist students in their transition into their first year with a specific focus on                 students of color and first-generation students
• Develops spring semester new student initiatives that target the co-curricular and academic transition needs of mid-year new students     and second-year students
• Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Development, College Student Personnel, Counseling, or related field.
EXPERIENCE: Previous experience (one year or more) in orientation, student support, student development, college student personnel, counseling, or related field. Experience in program development, implementation, and assessment.
OTHER: Some weekend, holiday, and evening work required. Local and regional travel required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills, and working knowledge in the areas of Student Development
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, planning, and organizational skills are essential to the position, as well as excellent judgment       and discretion
• Strong professional and ethical standards on which to serve as a role model to a diverse student constituency
• Ability to build working relationships with students, faculty, and staff
• Demonstrated leadership, management, and platform skills; an ability to oversee a wide variety of activities
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and to take initiative and work effectively with the student population
• Experience and competence with digital assessment tools, social media marketing, Microsoft Excel, and other digital media
• Ability to maintain flexibility and work well in a fast-paced environment, including ability to work nights and weekends as necessary

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Previous experience with diversity, equity & inclusion initiatives
• Previous experience advising student organizations
• Buyways experience
