General Summary of Position:
 
The Academic & Student-Athlete Development Advisor will provide a range of experiences for those interested in a career in Student-Athlete Services. UMass Lowell is a public institution recently ranked among the top research universities in the nation. Located approximately 30 miles from Boston, the campus is in the heart of a global community. UMass Lowell athletics is a member of the America East and Hockey East Conferences.
 
Essential Job Duties:
 
Oversee and supervise the academic progress of assigned student-athletes and work with at-risk student-athletes from their assigned teams:
  • Assist with academic decisions such as class scheduling, major selection, etc.
  • Assist with academic support such as time management skills, tutor scheduling, etc.
  • Conduct meetings with student-athletes to discuss academic progress
  • Communicate and meet with professors and coaches about academic issues
  • Prepare and report academic and study hall reports on a weekly basis
Under the guidance of the Director of Student-Athlete Academic Enrichment on programming related to tutoring and instructional assistance:
  • Assist as an instructional assistant as needed
  • Work with GradesFirst to help monitor the tutor program
  • Participate in trainings for tutors and IAs as needed
  • Advise the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and assist with Student-Athlete Development Initiatives
  • Coordinate SAAC activities and be their main point of contact
  • Assist with Programming for Student-Athlete Development Curriculum in Career, Leadership and Service
  • Advise the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and assist with Student-Athlete Development Initiatives
  • Coordinate SAAC activities and be their main point of contact
Promote the University’s commitment to customer service.
  • Build effective partnerships with co-workers throughout the University by freely sharing appropriate information and providing assistance when needed.
  • Ensure optimum service to all internal and external partners in response to all requests for service and information.
  • Maintain an environment that is welcoming to persons of all backgrounds, nationalities, and roles.
Other Job Duties:
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent evenings and possible weekends

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, or other related fields 
Additional Considerations:
  • Previous knowledge of NCAA Division I regulations preferred
  • Previous experience working with students in an academic setting preferred
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and public relations skills required
  • High self-motivation, strong organizational skills, and experience working in a fast paced environment preferred
  • Experience working effectively in diverse environments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred
