General Summary of Position:

The Area Coordinator is a mid-level, live-in professional staff member in the Office of Residence Life who plays a key role in shaping a vibrant, inclusive residential community. This position blends student development, staff leadership, and day-to-day operations to create an environment where students feel connected, supported, and able to thrive. 

The Area Coordinator oversees a residential community and supervises Graduate Fellows and student staff. Through the implementation of a residential curriculum, this role supports student learning and development while also managing community standards, occupancy processes, and ongoing operational needs. Area Coordinators respond to the evolving needs of their communities and contribute to broader Residential Education initiatives by supporting projects and collaborating with Residential Education leadership. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, supervision, and intentional development for staff within the assigned residential community
  • Using the established residential curriculum framework, develop and implement strategies that promote student development, community engagement, and foster a sense of belonging, connection, and community.
  • Manage area budget, occupancy operations, including check-ins and check-outs, fire and life safety inspections, roster verification, room changes, room condition reporting, and damage billing.
  • As a conduct hearing officer, facilitate a developmental student accountability process that promotes reflection, learning, identity development, and community responsibility, while coordinating holistic support for students of concern through the university’s care and intervention processes.
  • Serve in the residence life duty rotation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • Regular evenings and some weekends will be required.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • A Master's degree, in Student Personnel Services, Higher Education, Business Administration or related field.
  • Two years of previous professional Residence Life experience in a college or university
  • Two years of supervisory experience
  • Two years of higher education student conduct experience.
  • Experience developing strategies/events on a college campus.

Preferred Qualifications (additional considerations):

  • Experience implementing and assessing curricular strategies.
  • Experience supervising graduate-level staff
  • Experience utilizing residence life or conduct management systems (e.g., Roompact, StarRez, Maxient, or similar platforms)

This is an SEIU 888 Professional Union position, Grade P15 Minimum: $54,217,  25th quartile:  $61,672 and midpoint of:  $69,126. Please note that for this position, the anticipated salary starts at $60,000, based on experience and qualifications.
