General Summary of Position:
The Art and Design Department in the College of Fine Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences seeks one or more applicants for an adjunct faculty pool to teach Graphic Design (level II), Typography (level II), and Design in Motion commencing January 2025. The part time/adjunct instructor(s) will demonstrate passionate engagement in their own graphic design practice and/or research. They will provide education through learning-centered instruction that will enable graduates to understand and place their work in the historical and theoretical context of design. The position requires the ability to facilitate meaningful learning of the competencies in Graphic Design and Typography. The Art and Design Department emphasizes conceptual and aesthetic innovation while encouraging student-centered pedagogy. Minimum Qualifications (Required):
- M.F.A. or PhD in Graphic Design or a related field.
- Portfolio that demonstrates success in teaching and professional practice.
- Demonstrated understanding of theoretical and critical aspects of graphic design.
- Strong skills in typography and image-making.
- Broad understanding of graphic design, design history, design process and contemporary design issues.
- High level of technical proficiency of the Adobe Suite and other design applications and programs.
- Experience with a diverse student body.
- Understanding of web design, HTML/CCSS UX/UI, app design and motion graphics.
- The Art and Design Department is seeking to develop a pool of individuals qualified to teach all levels of studio courses in web design, interactive media, graphic design and typography. Candidates should describe their interest and qualifications in these areas.
Additional Considerations:
- Professional experience in graphic design, typography, interactive media or history of design.
- Strong production credits preferred.
- High level of technical proficiency.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
