Job Summary:
The UMass President's Office (UMPO) is seeking a current UMass student as a part-time intern to work with the growing Service and Quality team within the Unified Procurement Services Team (UPST) in a hybrid-office environment from one of the UMass campuses. The internship pays $17 per hour; academic credit may also be available.
The Training and Communications Department oversees the training, communications, and change management efforts across several support functions under the Administration and Finance Division. As a communications intern, you will work closely with the team to assist with various digital and in-person communication and change efforts.
The communications intern will be integral to the department's daily activities and will gain valuable experience and exposure to established and emerging internal and external communications and training practices. The communications intern will report to the Senior Communication and Training Specialist.
Essential Functions:
- Content Creation and Editing: Assist with content creation and editing of various communication channels such as emails, website content, social media, newsletters collateral, and presentations.
- Website support: Document and make routine content edits to various pages on the UMPO A&F website.
- Graphic Design: Assist with designing, developing, and managing marketing materials, including, but not limited to, digital and printed materials.
- Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support to the Training & Communication team for change management efforts for UMass.
- Customer Support: Provide widespread support to UPST customers and suppliers through phone, case management, and emails.
- General support: Other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience):
- Current UMass student enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program within Communications, Marketing, or General Business courses.
- GPA 3.0 or higher.
- Creative, eager to learn, motivated, and willing to take initiative on assigned projects/tasks.
- Reliable and detail-oriented with a strong ability to multi-task across multiple systems and jobs, stay organized, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be well organized and possess good follow-up skills.
- Strong attention to detail and experience in proofreading/editing copy.
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience):
- Ability to create captivating copy and graphics for social, campus, and supplier communications.
- Ability to leverage social media platforms to drive marketing/change outcomes, i.e., LinkedIn.
- Knowledge of any training creation tool i.e., Articulate, Camtasia, or Adobe Captivate.
