General Summary:
The Research Data Analyst supports data management, reporting, and technology-related functions to facilitate externally funded research administration. This role is responsible for maintaining research portfolio data, generating internal and external reports, updating departmental web content, and providing basic systems support. The Research Data Analyst collaborates closely with all ORSP staff/teams and other institutional stakeholders to ensure data integrity, timely reporting, and operational efficiency. This position plays an important role in supporting data-informed decision-making and improving departmental workflows.
Examples of Duties:
•Internal Research Data Management: Maintain and update internal research finance reports, trackers, scorecards, and templates to support data-informed decision-making and performance monitoring.
•Reporting and Analytics: Generate and distribute recurring and ad-hoc internal and external reports to support ORSP and institutional decision-making; assist with the upkeep of research systems and dashboards (e.g., Kuali, Summit, HelioCampus), ensuring accuracy and consistency; track performance metrics and trend data over time to identify areas for improvement; prepare summary data and basic explanations to support audit readiness and variance discussions with leadership.
•External Research Reporting: Support the preparation of sponsor and regulatory reports, including data gathering, formatting, and quality control.
•Website Content Management: Maintain and update departmental web content to ensure timely communication of resources, policies, and announcements.
•Data Governance and Compliance: Assist in ensuring research data handling practices comply with institutional data governance, privacy, and retention policies; flag discrepancies and contribute to system and process improvements.
•Basic IT/systems Support: Provide first-line technical support for departmental systems; troubleshoot minor issues and coordinate with central IT as needed.
•Collaboration and Coordination: Coordinate with ORSP staff, to ensure alignment of data tracking, system documentation, and reporting practices.
•Documentation and Quality Control: Maintain detailed records of data processes, reporting activities, and IT support requests; contribute to process improvements.
•Other Duties and Special Projects: Perform ad-hoc assignments and assist with special projects or institutional initiatives as assigned; may support urgent operational needs or provide backup coverage as needed.
Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in data analytics, information systems, business administration, or a related field, plus 1–3 years of relevant experience required.
•Foundational knowledge of data management principles, business intelligence tools, and institutional reporting systems used in research administration required.
•Familiarity with research or higher education environments and exposure to financial or sponsored research data is strongly preferred.
